Excerpt from ezine:
"Commitments That Matter"
On August 15 my husband and I will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary.
Someone recently asked me what the secret is to staying married to one person in
an age where more than 50% of marriages end in divorce. I responded by saying
that commitment and good communication have been key. (I also made a really good
choice, and my husband is a prince of a guy!)
Commitments form the core of our personal and professional relationships with
others. That's why it is so important to behave with integrity and sincerity
when we make commitments to others. Part of the work that I do as a coach is to
help my clients evaluate and refine their commitments so that they can make and
keep them effectively.
Most of the people I know are over-committed.they've bitten off more than they
can chew! The first week of August is Simplify Your Life Week...a great
opportunity to think about the commitments that matter the most to you and to
let go of those that are not as important. As you reflect on your personal and
professional commitments, ask yourself these questions:
Why did I make this commitment?
Your reasons and motives for making commitments change as your family, career,
interests, and skills change. Loyalties shift and resources vary. This is
natural, yet unless you take time to review your commitments you may continue to
show up in places that are no longer a good match for you.

Excerpt from Issue:
"The 3 P's of Recession-Proofing Your Professional Practice"
by Marcia Bench, CMP
1) Key Strategies to Making Your Coaching Practice Recession-Proof
a) Presentation
= Emphasize benefits to the client and return on their investment, versus $ they
would be spending; consider framing it as a % of their annual salary
= Use the client's own words to reiterate their needs, i.e., communicate in
their style
= Be clear about what you offer, and what your Unique Value Proposition is,
versus other coaches the client may compare with you
b) Pricing
= Use a sliding scale
= Have client pay you a % of the return you generate (e.g., increased sales) -
usually as an add-on bonus, NOT as your sole means of compensation
= Add value by including assessments, admission to ongoing groups, books, tapes,
etc. to the coaching services; sell "packages" of coaching by name
(e.g., "The Life Purpose Discovery Program")
= Give client more options for payment - from "Volkswagen" to
"Cadillac" level
= Offer payment arrangements/installment plans
= Offer discounts for prepayment for 3 or 6 months
= Accept credit cards by establishing a merchant account
= Barter coaching services for other services you need (e.g., marketing, web
design, bookkeeping, etc.)
= Don't price yourself so low that you'll have trouble reaching market levels -
averages are $400/month up to several thousand dollars/month. You are not
a beginner - you bring all your previous expertise to the table!
= Consider group coaching via teleclass to optimize your $/hour and make
coaching more affordable
