I offer two challenges for
the month of January: The first is for those who are challenged
with managing the paper in your life.
The second is for those who feel overwhelmed with too many
things on your plate. Take your pick! Challenge #1
(overwhelmed with paper): National Clear Off Your Desk Day
is January 10, 2002. Unless you are the unusual one who goes to work and
says, "I don't have anything else to do today…I think I'll clear
off my desk and clean out the files!", you may need to designate a
day to do this at least once a year. If you cannot devote time on January
10th for National Clear Off Your Desk Day, consider scheduling a desk
and file clean-out day in the next few weeks. The time investment
will pay for itself many times over in the coming months! For helpful
tips, read my article Trim
the F.A.T. -- How to Conquer the Paper Pile-Up.
For assistance with this process, give me a call today at
425-881-6627 or contact me at orgcoach@gte.net. Executives, CEOs, and Managers:
read about the Paper
Tiger Productivity Quick Start program and calculate
what your time is worth. Challenge #2 (too
much on your plate): As the New Year wears on, people
get lost in the urgencies of day-to-day life and find their New Year's
Resolutions falling by the wayside...only to reappear on next year's
list! According to a Women's Day magazine, almost 25% of all New
Years Resolutions lose their momentum after one week. If you feel
overwhelmed with too much on your plate, I encourage you to begin this
year with a big-picture view of what you want for 2002 by writing down
your response to these questions:
Once you've sketched
out the bigger picture, try the SMART process to keep
the momentum going. Make goals or choices that are: Measurable - How will you
know you have achieved your desired outcome? How will you
measure it?
To assist you in setting this SMART
process into motion, take out your calendar and schedule one hour
each week to do weekly planning. Block out a weekly
appointment time with yourself NOW for the entire year. (If
you need to reschedule your weekly planning session, you can do that
on a weekly basis.) Follow this six-step
planning process. When you do this
weekly, I guarantee that you will achieve more of your goals
and feel more balanced and fulfilled in the process.
If you'd like to schedule a complimentary
coaching call for assistance getting started with this process, please
send me some possible times (Monday-Friday between 8 AM and 3 PM
Pacific Time) and we can schedule a time to talk. Best wishes for 2002,
Kathy Paauw
